BEACHES

Zakynthos is full of gorgeous, unspoilt beaches and coves.  These are a few of our favourites:

Agios Nikolaos - there are 2 beaches in Agios Nikolaos port.  The main one will be obvious (where La Storia is).  The other, you will need to go onto the main open stretch of tarmac where the Kefalonia ferry comes in and keep driving round to the right.  It's tiny but really pretty!

BBQ Beach - this is a hidden gem and you'll no doubt love it.  For it's exact location, head to Sofia's Art Bar and Tapas and ask!  It will be well worth it!  Tip: Careful taking the car all the way down - we usually leave it at the top and walk down.

Long Beach - this is after Niko's by the Sea restaurant and will be pretty obvious!

Xigia Beach - the beach here is a beautiful, small bay set between the cliffs, with turquoise waters.  The natural spring water is filled with collagen and sulphur – great for your health and really relaxing to float about in.

Alykes Beach - this is the main tourist town closest to the house and is the nearest sandy beach.  You'll find several supermarkets here too.

Banana Beach - this the largest beach on the island, located 14km this side of Zakynthos Town. There are a few beach bars offering cold drinks and light snacks and there are plenty of parking spaces.

Porto Limionos – this is one of the most pleasant places to swim on Zakynthos.  Although not a ‘beach’, there are natural, narrow stairways leading down to where the water can be accessed.  There is also a taverna serving delicious, local cuisine. It is located on the west region of Zakynthos, 7km away from Agios Leon.

Porto Vromi – this is located on the northwest coast of Zakynthos.  It is a small cove with a small pebbly beach.  The drive down to Porto Vromi is steep and winding, but the views are spectacular.  There are no facilities such as umbrellas or sunbeds, but you will find pedaloes for rent, and a canteen serving very basic snacks and refreshments.

Sunset above Shipwreck Bay - this is a 'secret' place to go and watch the beautiful  Zakynthian sunsets.  It's about a half an hour drive, beyond the ancient town of Volimes, located in the hills, but definitely worth the trip!  Tip: Take care of the windy and steep roads and take some drinks and snacks with you as there is no cafe/ restaurant/ shop there.

Blue Caves Trips - the best guy for this is in the yellow hut, behind La Storia in Agios Nikolaos port.

Boat Hire - ask at Mikro Nisi restaurant for a good deal!
