RESTAURANTS, CAFES & BARS
The island offers a vast array of restaurants serving local Greek and international cuisine. Here are just some situated close to Zaharoula that will send your taste buds into overdrive:
Sofia's Art Bar and Tapas - this is a really cool bar/ gallery owned by a lovely Greek lady. It's about half way down between the house and the port on the left hand side. She has also started doing tapas style dinners but you will need to book at the beginning of the week as she only has 2/3 tables! They are not to be missed though!
Mikro Nisi - this is one of our favourites on the water in the tiny hamlet of Mikro Nisi. The house is actually named after the grandmother of the people who own this restaurant. From the house go right and take the first left after the sharp bend going steeply downhill. Keep driving on that road, follow the coast and is on the left. It should be signposted but if you've gone past Niko's by the sea you've gone too far.
La Storia - this is the far restaurant on the beach in the Agios Nikolaos Port (less than a 5 minute drive from the house) and serves a variety of greek dishes. The taverna hosts a 'Greek night' every Friday night, which is very amusing! You'll probably need to book a table if you go on this particular night. It's a beautiful setting. Tip: Ask Tsakis for his special menu as it has even better food!
Orizodes - this is the closest restaurant to the house on the road going from the house to the port opposite Emerald Villas on the left. Athina heads the kitchen, serving Greek authentic dishes - I haven't been there for a while but Mum really likes it!
Niko's by the Sea - this restaurant (serving more Mediterranean style dishes) is, from the house, past Mikro Nisi on the left hand side of the road, before long beach.
Denis' in Volimes - this is the old village in the mountains. It's really pretty but might be a bit of a drive for some of those with kids (it's about 25 mins).
Nobelos – this gorgeous boutique hotel has a restaurant attached serving delicious Greek and international cuisine. If you have any room after, they also have a mouth-watering selection of homemade ice – creams. Located a short drive or about a 15 minute walk from the house, on the way down to Agios Nikolaos Port, on the right hand side.
El Sueno Pizzeria - this circular restaurant is located just after Mikro Nisi on the sea as you're driving from the house - the pizzas are fantastic!
To Petrino – located on the coastal road on the right hand side, just before you reach Long Beach, this taverna offers an extensive menu with dishes prepared to the highest of standards. The menu includes Italian, Mediterranean and Vegetarian cuisine, but they specialize in homemade traditional Greek and Zakynthian cuisine and the daily fresh fish is caught by them and the local fisherman.
Regatta’s – this is a sweet little bar overlooking Agios Nikolaos. It’s on the left hand side of the road just before you get to the port. If you get to the petrol station you have gone too far.
Toni’s Bar – this is on the right hand side of the road, on the way down to Agios Nikolaos Port, opposite Sofia’s Art Bar and Tapas. Here you can enjoy coffee during the day or drinks in the evening. They serve a variety of breakfasts, delicious pizzas, crepes and snacks.
To Nisi – owned by Soula, this place is situated in a lovely location in Agios Nikolaos Port and serves drinks, snacks, ice cream and crepes.
Ex Animo – turn right out of the Zaharoula drive, this gorgeous little place, set between the olive trees, is about 300 metres from the house, as if you are driving up to Volimes. The owner, Sofia, cooks all her dishes with a lot of love and care and coffee can also be enjoyed in this very friendly environment.
Volimes Snack Bar - in the centre of Volimes, Athina serves excellent breakfast, snacks and coffee.
